I just got an external hdd enclosure for my desktop hard drive that I had laying around which contains all my music, pictures, programs, etc.... It also has windows 98 installed. I have it connected to my laptop via USB.

Anyway, what I want to do is have the HDD (40gb) to be used as storage for all my music, nothing else. Is there a way I can remove windows 98 and the programs from it without reformatting and losing my music?

I know I can burn the music onto data discs, but that will take loads of cds and its time consuming.

Any suggestions?

well.. at least I can't think of any other way than reformatting.
But there has to be some place you can put that music on for the 2 minutes it takes to reformat the external hdd. Move them to your internal hdd, maybe go over to a friends house and move them to his hdd or something like that.
Shouldn't be a problem to find a pc with 40gb of free space.

Yeah, I realized last night that I had enough room on my gf's laptop to transfer them while I reformatted. Took me awhile but I got it done.:D
