Default External HD Case w/ Fan?

I would like to use my 500GB Seagate 3.5" Hard Drive in an external Hard Drive Case for just backing up my files maybe once or twice a week. Do I need an external case with a fan to keep the Hard Drive running cool and stable?

Probably not, most external hard drive cases already have holes and grills on the side for cooling. If the drive already runs hot? Then yes I may consider it, but it is more on personal preference I think.
