Is it a USB connection, eSATA, what? Are you powering it from the computer or using an external power cord? Can you use other USB devices in that port?

Okay, are you powering the drive from the USB port or using an external power source (brick/wallwart)?

I'd recommend using an external power source; either the wallwart that comes with the drive or an externally-powered USB hub between your computer and the drive. See if that helps.

does this drive work if you connect it to another computer??

What OS is your computer running?

Maybe a BIOS update will help if your computer is old
