if i have 184 pin ram in my mobo right now, and my new one takes 184 pin ddr ram just like my old one, and i put my ram from my old mobo into my new one, would it work?

its pc2100. its my understanding that the RAM just wont be running at its full potential, since my new mobo will be able to take more then pc2100 ram.

No, I don't think the memory from your Gateway PC will work with the new motherboard. Your old PC memory runs at DDR200 and DDR266 while the new motherboard only supports memory speeds at DDR400 and DDR333

Aopen i dun think is that great a mobo manufacturer anyawys, try to find a gigabyte/asus mobo, mostlikley they will support ddr 2100 and up

i would get asus , u still gonna have to get new ram, but with this u can opt to get 2700, which is a bit cheaper, but u can still get a gig of pc 3200 for $124 like i did, 62 bux/ stik, but anyways ya, lol get asus, gigabyte, or msi, those are better known/better brands, least das wut i hear, and my msi a64 board is nice

Why would you want to put RAM which have a max frequency of 266 Mhz on a motherboard that runs at 400 Mhz, you will just be creating a bottleneck, causing your new PC to be slower.
Sell the old MOBO, with the CPU and RAM and buy a stick with as much RAM as you can buy to fill in a slot. If your MOBO has the capability of dual channel, buy the same type of RAM as you have now on your PC.
Don't put old parts in new computers; generally sell em to buy up to date components. You bought a new PC to have more speed, don't slow it down with old parts, you'll be shying your investement.
