I got a free computer from my grandfather, and needless to say, it's a piece of crap. It has like 512 RAM, 70GB HDD, and a processor I've never even heard of.

Linux is great, but this computer is slowly dying.

I don't know where to start with upgrading it. Because I don't know what to buy.

I would like to use the case, and possibly build a custom machine, but I wouldn't know what's compatible etc...

I don't need some powerhouse machine, because I don't do PC games. Please help. Completely clueless here.

Get a copy of Maximum PC magazine and they will show you how to build a pC for around $600.00.
