E8500 Overheating

is it very dusty?
becouse the stock cooler should be enough as long as your not over clocked...

nooooooooooooooooo
do that as last resort and if you have to spend the money on a decent cooler
so anoyying to do
if its very dusty just clean it with compressed air
also what are you using to monitor temps
also is this a custom built computer?
yes this is a custom computer. its my first one i just put it together a few months ago and i didnt really find the temps a problem until i started playin games. i am using a program called occt to monitor the temps

i have a e8500, gigabyte ep45 motherboard

ok what im going to recommend is that you buy a new cpu cooler (zalman 9700 is nice) install it
make sure to clean all of the old thermal paste off tho with 90% grade alcohol
then install and test
(the tighter u get the clamp screwed down the better btw)

I would suggest that the stock cooler isn't correctly mounted from the OP's couple of posts.

You need to physically ensure that all four pushpins are fully engaged.

That said, an after market heatsink is always going to be superior to the Intel stock cooler.

Also, use Real Temp or Core Temp to monitor temps.

thnx for the help. it ended up being that one of my pins was stuck and not properly placed but its all good now
