Dx10

I have a question about DX10.

Ok, I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, with a EvGa 7900GT.

When I do a dxdiag it says I have DX10.

But I only have a DX9 card? How does this work?


Also when I go to install Vista and it asks which version I want to install, it gives me the choices of Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate. Then Home Basic N, Home Premium N, Business N, and Ultimate N.

What does the "N"s mean?

You don't need a DX10 card to be able to have DX10. You can have an older card and still be able to have DX10. You just won't be able to take advantage of it's new features like newer cards will.

You mean on the installation DVD? I don't remember. I don't think it's 64 bit.

i believe its the difference between languages? or was it clean install or upgrade? i dont know.

i think the "N" versions of vista are for europe only, and have no media player in them due to some legal ruling.

The N versions have the Windows Media Player removed because the EU like being stupid. The EU's logic never ceases to amaze me.

As for DX10, you don't need to worry. Windows Vista will run with both DX9 and DX10, but when you use a DX10 video card, video games that utilize DX10 will have improved shading and overall graphical effects.
