Default DVD Software

hi guys,
ok, so what i want to do is take some of my movies and copy them on a hard drive so I can watch movies without having to lug my dvds along. what software could I use to do this (FREE!) lol. im not lookin to re-burn these, if that changed anything. ive searched and have gotten plenty of different results, any reccomendations? and what format will the dvds be copied to? Also, ive been wanting a tv tuner for a while now too, any advise there would be nice. thnx

DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink. DVDFab Decrypter was also an excellent program...seems it's not technically free anymore though.

Then after all that, I use ImgBurn to do the actual burning.
