Default Dvd+r?

I just got this burner:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151141
And these DVD+R's
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817132389

Could I make backups of movie DVD's with this combo.

Also, on a side note what happened to the Mac OSX, XP dual boot guide on Computer Forums, I did a search and couldn't find it...
