Is it just one DVD or multiple DVDs? If its just the one then give it a clean. The specs of the computer, OS, software your using etc would help aswell.

Are you using codecs? have you tried using a different player progam? what is your current player?

It sounds to me like your media player or your codecs have become corrupt, try removing the codecs and reinstalling them, also had you just upgraded your WMP version when the problem started? as I had a few codec issues when I first upgraded to WMP11 and that was the codecs I had already wasn't compatible with the version 11 I had to wait for the update,
I use these http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm
