could anyone tell me what they think is the best software for shrinking and copying a dvd to your hard dive (i really want the sound and picture quality to be kept exactly the same)

I'm just wondering where you are getting the DVD movie. If you're getting it from limewire or some other similar program then wouldn't it already be on the computer? If you have a DVD disc and you are trying to shrink and copy it to the computer then you should try what Dan said.

when i use dvd decrypter the dvd is split up into diffrent files and the dont play on media player do u know why this is or could you name a program that automatically puts it to a file like you get from limewre, warez etc?? (1 single file)

You might try DVDsanta...It seems to be about the best around now for converting/copying and burning.
