Default Re: DVD drive compatible with compaq

I can't remember off the top of my head if there were any. Many new computers from compaq come with those though. Why would it suddenly be a problem?

A thing I noticed though and mentioned in another thread when I booted an ubuntu 9.10 cd to see if I could access the drive at all the disk manager said the drive had "many bad sectors" in big red lettering and the mount option was disabled. How accurate is this program in ubuntu and could this be part of the problem? I will look and see if I could disconnect the media card reader if there is one
