Default DvD drive

I have a DVD writer in my computer, but I don't know whether it is a plus or a minus to write DVD's. I recently purchased some Philips DVD-R DVD's and I keep failing whilst burning in Nero at 1%. It will write CD's. Please help,

Cheers,
Nik

In Nero it just says that the burn process failed at 4x. I don't know the make or model as it is my brothers, anyway to find this out?

yeah, go to your control panel, click performance and maintenance, click system, click on the hardware tab then go to device manager.

In the device manager go to where it says DVD/CD rom drives and click the plus sign next to it and the drive brand and model number will be listed there.

How can I use this to help me? It just keeps failing at 1%, is it anything to do with my DVD's?
