Default dvd decoder

i have a compaq presario 1200 running on windows 2000. whenever i try to play a dvd it says i need to download a dvd decoder. does anybody know where to download a dvd decoder for free or a good cheep one.

or you can try VLC media player..it's totally free and plays most dvds and a bunch of other movie formats...i can't remember the link but just google it and you'll find it! I've been using it for about 6 months, no problems..it's a good alternative for when microsoft screws you out of being able to play dvds just because you didn't buy the media center...f bill gates is what i say!

yea vlc is great. you can play all the popular formats and a few other ones aswell. its also got a good selection of settings

i searched and searched by never found any good dvd plug-ins that were free that worked with windows media player, so VLC is probably your best bet as the others have recommended.
