DVD Burner Problems

Hey guys, new to the forums.

I had an old Toshiba laptop that went bad so I took all the memory, HD, and DVD-Burner out. I bought a case for the DVD-Burner and now it's enclosed and I would like to use it as an external burner using the USB.

So I've got it all hooked up and the computer recognizes it but the Roxio or Nero programs that I downloaded will not burn the DVDs. When I go to My Computer and try to open the drive it says "F:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I think this may be a driver problem but I'm not sure. The Microsoft AutoPlay Repair Wizard says "AutoPlay V2 event" has problems and when I try to repair it says "Either the device is malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem."

The DVD burner is a Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-850 but the computer recognizes it as a Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-841S.

And this is the log from AutoFix:

Can someone please help me?

Just an update:
I've found the firmware for the drive (KMFOPD-01316000-UN.exe) but it wont let me pick which drive I want it to use it on. It's automatically choosing the internal drive and wont allow me to chose the external drive.

Any suggestions?
