i was wondering what a network card does and if i need one. if so, howmuch should ispend or what one should i get?

That motherboard has a built in "network card" or LAN (local area network).

From the specs:
Onboard LAN
LAN Chipset - Realtek 8111C
Second LAN Chipset - Realtek 8111C
Max LAN Speed - Dual 10/100/1000Mbps

A network card allows you to connect to the internet or another computer.

if you talk to the right people
there is a bit of a debate about network cards and if they are necessary
some say yes
just like on board sucks
and you need to get a dedicated everything
others say that it will work just fine
its up to your budget really
i dont think its necessary
but some might

they claim that it is less work for the processor to complete
and it will make it run faster
my thought is this:
they must have an 800 MHz processor

Isn't there a complete BS network card marketed towards gamers that costs like $300?

Integrated network cards aren't the same as, say, integrated video cards. The only time I use PCI network cards are if (1) it's an old computer without integrated, or (2) I am building a server that should have several NICs. One time I built a Ghostcast server and installed 4 NICs into the server to distribute the load evenly when I imaged an entire computer lab at one time.

yeah i think i remember it on some dell-like on-line build shop
it didnt make me even remotely consider buying one

now as for a server
thats a completely different story
i cant say that i have experience
but just being logical about it says that having network cards
would basically be a must for good performance
and quick network speeds
right?
servers aint my cup of tea
so i really dont know
