Default dumb question

this is a no-brainer for a lot of the whizkids out there, but im curious. what, if anything, would have to be done to have an external hard drive that was hooked up to both desk top and laptop? basically, i am wondering if i can move files from one to the other using the hard drive...

you might just want a network .. if you also need the extra storage hook it to the desktop and use a crossover cabel between the desktop and notebook

can you just get a plug and play USB external hardrive? copy the files form your comp and then plug it into the laptop and copy the files onto that
