Default dual quad core?

im building a computer and am puting a dual quad core intel processor in it.. my friend is telling me that with dual core there are some things u cant do that u can do with a single core processor.. is this true? and if so what type of things

A dual quad? It's either one or the other I think...

Some older programs don't run well with dual or quad cores, so you have to have Windows turn off your other CPUs for that program. I can't think of anything else.

Just compatibility issues with older programs, if you don't run any older programs, don't worry about it.

but even the older programs will still run just wont utilse all 4 cores so it will be fine

Wait a minute, are we talking about a dual socket Xeon platform here or dual core vs quad core?

I think theres a mix up. I think its dual vs quad core since in the original question processors weren't pluralized (only one instead of dual chips).

he has 2 quad processors guys. You'll be find. What are you doing that you need that much horsepower though.

im not so sure i think hes jus getting mixed up on the wording and ment to say core2quad but forgot the core*
