My sister was using a old Athlon FX 3500+ 2.2ghz single core and it recently burned up.
She is a fan of fps games like Crysis and Half Life 2 and her old machine could run it on medium specs.

Her system is
Athlon FX 3500+ 2.2ghz single core (now dead)
256mb PCI-e EVGA 7600GT
430 wat PSU
4gb PC3200 memory
Vista Home

I was looking at single cores and saw this

For a single core but I was wondering for gaming would getting a this

If the Sempron is a good option I was thinking of pairing it up with

or maybe

Be a better option since it is a dual core? I just wanted the thoughts of smarter people then I.
My sister does not have a lot of cash to throw into this and she isn't a "omg max settings" kinda lady in fact almost all her upgrades came from my old PCs.

Her original PC was a bargain brand e-machine T6528.

Any info you need please feel free to ask and I will try to help you help me :)

Thank you :)

Also a side note my friend has a Windows XP 64 bit for the dual core setup what exactly does 32v64 bit do?

Well that is all fine and dandy but this is a old school 939 socket mobo. This is just a small upgrade till she can get some money up for a new PC in a year or so. Since her processor died and I have a bit of extra cash was gonna help her out.

Just looking to spend 50-80 bucks so she can keep playing till she gets her funds up to buy her new gaming rig :)

My question really is a 1.8ghz duo core a better option then a 2.4 single core athlon for FPS type games.

This would be a better choice for a 939 board

It's cheap and fairly powerful, you could find some 939 dual core processors, but they are typically quite expensive.

what would be a good fan to pair up with it since the link is a OEM thus no stock fan?
I don't really care to over clock and I doubt the 3500 stock would be able to keep it cool?

The stock fan shouldn't have a problem keeping it cooler, newer processors run cooler.

Well what I mean to say is the processor you linked is a OEM and it does not have a heat sink and fan that comes with it.
I don't think a older 3500 model heat sink and fan would work well would it (her old burned up 3500+ stock)

If your heatsink was designed for a 130nm processor, it will also work fine on a faster 90nm processor.

A 130nm 3500+ would run alot hotter than a 90nm 4000+

Thats strange would have thought older model would not run as hot as higher model. Will try it out then with the 3500+ stock and see how it turns out.
Worst case it runs to hot will just buy a new heatsink/fan for it :)

Thank you very much for your time mate.
