hey guys. im totally a noob.
but id appreciate the help.

i got a acer aspire 5532 laptop.
crapy 1.6ghz single core and about 3gb of RAM
question is. if i downgrade to XP (which i prefer anyways)
will i see a noticeable difference in performance
and battery life? i know it would execute programs faster
and run smoother. it just seems this laptop just
wasnt built for windows 7.
and id rather play my games on something a little quicker.

thanks for the help!
ill five star you or thumbs up. however it works here.

XP is on the way out right now. Soon, you will see more programs that do not support it, but for now, the main things you lose are video card features. With XP, you are stuck with directX 9, while 7 has DX11. For gaming, DX11 will look tons better. You also get support for things such as 3Dvision and eyefinity, which do not work in XP.

And you need to consider that there are already some games that are Vista/W7 only, and I have a feeling that list is going to get big fast.

you know your totally right. the only REAL reason i considered doing this is because i just spent 350$ on this bad boy
only to figure out the cpu is INTEGRATED.
only this i can do is upgrade the ram one more gb
kinda sucks. guess il should just do it the old fashion
way a build a desktop. laptops just arent for gaming.
unless you have like 1600$ to spend

thanks bro.

Actually, the egg has an $800 gaming laptop with a GTX 260m video card (pure pwnage)

As far as this laptop, it really won't do much for gaming, but would be a good web browser and basic usage machine.

As far as I know, 7 has better battery management, and the performance difference in them won't be huge. As long as you've got at least 1GB of RAM, you should be ok.

OH SNAP! can you type the link in for it?
or just the name and model number.
im sure i could come up with around 800.
merely for the portable gaming experience
ha.

It has Vista...I wouldn't mind it but a lot of people have a huge aversion to it for some reason.

well. im my opinion i just lacked a good design.
it made me feel as though microsoft took
away all my control and features and said
we'll let the computer figure out.
it was for old heads that cant work their way around a
computer. windows 7 is better.
but i still feel like im not in total control
