Double digital projector display feature?

Not sure if this is in the right category, but I had this feature on my computer in student teaching where I could drag windows over to the right side of the screen and they would appear on the digital projector, allowing me to work on other things on my computer monitor. It was like having two displays to work with and it was extremely handy.

My question is this: is this a feature of Windows or is this some kind of software I have to purchase? I tried a Google search but had no idea what to look for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your computer is capable of dual display, you can usually plug a digital projector into the second display port and use it as an extended desktop. Many notebook computers have an external video port with features such as dual display (your notebook monitor and an external monitor), switching between internal and external displays, or duplicate displays, where everything on the internal display is duplicated on the external display.
