Does the 5770 require a bios update?

i'm planning on getting a msi 790fx and an ATI 5770 but does this mean i'll have to update the motherboards bios because it came out before the 5770 did?

No, the card runs on PCI-E 2.0 spec, so you shouldn't need any updates. I would, nonetheless, suggest a BIOS update as they normally resolve common issues for RAID, overclocks, RAM, etc.

As Grantofhell has said, you won't need a BIOS update to run that video card. I would only recommend updating the BIOS if you are having isues that a BIOS update will solve. Like the saying goes "If it aint broke, don't fix it."
