Do you need a floppy drive?

So far, the only thing that actually uses a floppy drive is the SATA drivers that comes with some motherboards. Most you can just pop in a CD anyways.

It's an inexpensive ornament that can be used to boot the comp

EDIT: Both in Windows and Linux.
And you can recover from Norton Ghost utility in Dos...

Does anybody use Norton Ghost? With DVDs it seems a little superfluous...

It is inexpensive yes... but it is also a waste of space and a Socket on the Cable. Most people boot Computers with CDs now anyway, they serve greatly more useful, being able to have loads of Drivers and things to run Custom Technical Programs and Formatting Programs.

i don't think norton ghost is that bad and it is very useful(although i don't own it)... you can image your hard drives/files and restore them when something goes wrong... boot disks can be very slow.

No, You dont need a floppy drive to boot, although if you dont have another Primary Slave or Secondary IDE it is nessecary to have one if you run the evil scum of the earth ( Windows ) .

If you run Linux however, there is no need for any IDE's or Slaves
