Default DirectX?

My computer restarts for some reason whenever I try to play games or when I do the directdraw test in dxdiag. Additionally, there are apparently no input devices or direct3d or agp.

I tried downloading directx from the microsoft site, but it just says that the installation is complete after a few seconds without actually installing or anything. After that, I tried installing the redist version but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

What driver are you running?? Catalyst 6.4?? they're known to be buggy. If you are try the 6.3's or the 6.5's

well there's your problem the card is DX 8.1 capable according to the ATi site not DX9.0 capable, provided he is trying to install DX9.0c that is.
