Direct connection

Is there a way to plug my desktop into the phone jack so I can use my dsl without using a router? Like some kind of cable that goes from phone jack to ethernet? I think my router may be interferring with my webcaming because During a webcam chat my status showed the following:
"You are directly connected to .NET Messenger Services" , but below that, it
said:
"You are connected to the internet through a non-UPnP IP restricted NAT.
(Administrator)".
I checked the box in my router settings that said enable UPnP, but that didn't change my status in messenger.

That message is really confusing, but it means its not restricted, (Double negative = positive)
