Difference in Intel sockets 1156 and 1366?
I'm planning out a new build soon, and I was reading a magazine and it highly recommended the i7-860 which is lga 1156, however I compared it to the i7-920 which is the same price, and if anything, better. However I'm a bit outdated in the PC building field, it's been a while, and I'm unsure of the difference in sockets, specifically which will be more optimal for a build that I want to be extremely upgradeable in the future. Thanks for any help.

They are pretty much identical except the 1156 has a PCIe on-board controller the 1366 hasn't.
Yesterday I would've said that the 1156 beats the 1366 in gaming but to be fair the 1156 i7-860 and the 1366 i7-930 are about the same. The 1366 is the way to go for CPU intensive tasks. |

Thanks for the advice, I'll go the way of the 1366 then. Narrowing it between the 920 and 930, both exactly the same though the 930 has a slightly faster clock speed, and for the pocket change difference of a cost, I assume it's worth it.

I'll spend the savings on a decent after-market cooler. |

That's actually a fairly good price for the 920.

Go to MicroCenter if you have one around. Also, the 1366 socket supports tri channel ram, while the 1156 only supports dual channel.
