Default Did my motherboard just go out?

Ok.... I'm starting to get pissed off. My new computer just WILL NOT work. One thing leads to another, I fix one problem and another happens. On... and on... and on.... forever and ever.

Well, this is my new system:

Processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115029

PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339001

Graphics card:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...OTC-GOOGLEBASE

Ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188019

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701

DVD-drive (Recycled from old system): Samsung SD-612

OS: Vista 64-bit home premium

CPU fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200013

My current problem:

I had tried to install XP on it, only to get to a certain point where I found out it was an upgrade disk, not a full install. So I bought Vista Full.

I put in the Vista CD, and it says boot disk error. I un-plug and re-plug, and try again. Now, during Nvidia startup, it says "PXE-E61 Media Test Failure check cable". Once again, I unplug and replug. Still the same thing.

-Edited out last paragraph because I solved this problem but am still experiencing the problem above-

contact newegg and get an RMA number. dont mess with it, other wise they might tell you that you abused it and will not replace it.

Upon further inspection... A cable had come loose, that I never messed with. The 8-pin connecter, hidden well beneath my massive CPU fan, came loose. I'll edit my first post to take the problem with the mobo out.

Now that it is re-connected, the mobo is acting as it should again. But I still have the same problem with the media test connection failure. I'll edit my first post to take the problem with the mobo out.

Why??? you can do a full install from an upgrade disk

This is your computer trying to boot from your network card (Preboot Execution Environment). On most motherboards this simply means the computer has no found anything to boot off of.

I'd first check that your DVD drive is working correctly.

It wouldn't let me do a full install. It got to a certain point and said please insert the proper windows cd, and gave a bunch of examples. I read somewhere on the internet that you can do a full install from an upgrade CD... You just have to have a copy of an earlier version of windows that you stick in when it asks for it.

And the mobo is a 680i.

I've been using that CD drive for a while with no problems, and I've also tried it with another cd-drive (though it was really old [2001]) Could it be the cord connecting it? Is it suppose to say it's the slave drive?

That's how you do it, just drop in a windows disk (any disk except 95 will work) you don't need a serial or anything just the disk, it can even be a burnt disk, and away you go.

That's the chipset but what brand and model is the board?

back this up a tad here, you've got a sata drive yes??

The SATA hdd shouldn't have jumpers, the rom drive is IDE I take it? that should be set as primary master on the IDE channel

Okay so I rearanged the IDE cord to give the ROM drive Master, and now it's loading vista... but, like I said, it's one problem after another. Now, after it gets to a certain point, it says there was a hardware error and windows shut down to prevent damage to the computer. It's done that twice now... It says to undo any recent hardware changes... which doesn't help when the entire computer is a hardware change. I'm switching the new hard drive out with an older one (2001) right now, trying to figure out what hardware is failing...

Sounds like the rom drive is not up to scratch, or the ide cable, can you try another cable??

Also it could be that your cpu is overheating, what temps are registering in the bios??

Bloody newegg is giving 404 on the cpu link as well here so I don't know what it is, care to enlighten me please. Stock cooler on it??
