DeskJet HP 1280 printing problem/error. Interesting

Hi, I've got a hp 1280 printer but i cannot print ANYTHING on it. Everytime i try and print (no matter what the paper size is) I cannot print. All that happens is the document goes into the spooler, saying it's printing and it's size is xxx/yyy and then after about a minute it says printing error and i have to delete it.

I've had this problem for ages and i only just got around to having another shot at fixing it. I say again as last time i tried I was able to get it to print some text from notepad just the once using (if i remeber correctly) the parallel port connection and queue up a load of documents then print it. Then deleted the top one and it printed the next document in the queue I wasn't able to do it again.

I have tried different connections, parallel, usb and a parallel to usb adapter connection test. I've tried the command prompt stuff for postscript and non-postscript

copy con USB001
and ECHO blahblah dir > USB001

I've tried from wordpad, notepad, ms word and powerpoint - no luck

nothing works. I'm stumped. It doesn't work on other computers either


Any ideas on what to do.

Have you installed the drivers and the printing software?

In the control panel there is a folder called printers and faxes,if you click on that and right click on your printer and go properties can it print a test page?
