So, a friend of mine comes home today with a "gaming computer" that his stepdad fount at the dump (he works there). Turns out to be a Dell precision 650. with a dual socket mobo inside.

It uses socket 604 (533MHz FSB), standard DDR memory, and has PCI and PCI-64 slots with AGP 8x. Something obviously doesn't work here, but after looking on eBay I figure we could throw ~$150 at it and have a running system. Question is, what could it be used for? He thinks it'll be decent for gaming (not hardcore stuff...older games and MMO's mostly), but I'm not so sure...neither of us have ever used anything like this before.

Here's a link to an ad for it:

edit: Here's dell's info on its service tag

You sure that's all it's useful for? :(

The processors are 3.06 gig Xeons, btw. Gallatin, I think...they have hyperthreading. It even has a half-decent video card. I think it was a video editing computer. You sure it couldn't pull off a few older games? It's got to be better than what he has now...a single core 2.6Ghz Celeron computer with 64MB integrated graphics and a dead RAM slot.

And actually, the optiplex I'm on now is our media computer/file dump, lol.

Oh ok...I was about to say, I know Xeons are different but they can't be THAT bad, lol. It would make a good server though, especially for free, lol. Thanks :)

Now the only dilemma is where to put it. It's effing huge! :(
