Default Dell Motherboard Question

if i bought a dell motherboard that was a different from the one i already have. would it fit. i would have to make sure that i had the backplate, etc. but i want a 2400 motherboard, rather than my broken 4300 mobo. would fit work correctly. pleaze reply.thANKS
