that's what im thinking of buying for college

dell inspiron

2ghz pentium dual core
3 gb ram
250gb hd

I have a question, should i pay extra $35 for the core 2 duo?

all im doing is surfing the net and word processing, but i have a friend who is insistent on me getting a core 2 duo

i hear the core 2 duo is only like a 10-15% increase in performance. if that is the truth i may as well save my cash

also, should i upgrade to a 9 cell battery?

Will you be taking your desktop with you to college or will you only have the laptop?

Budget?

desktop and laptop

i only wanna spend less than $500 for laptop. maybe $550 if its "exceptional deal"

i also have to spend money on a new psu, monitor, and sound system ($350-400?)

so i dont wanna break the bank

batter as long as possible, but 3+ hours will be good

anything about or equal to 14 in should be fine

Okay. Well, if you are fine with a 14", 01001010 recommends some good Lenovos in their business lineup that get very good battery life. So wait till he comes around or give him a quick PM. I don't know the model offhand.

01001010 -- He seems to be the resident "what computer should I buy" guy on the forums. He'll be around with plenty of options for you.

The default packages offer a better monitor, better build quality, and better overall design.
