Default Dell 4600 New Hard Drive Install Issue(s)

My original dell PATA 80G HD failed (clicking).I purcharsed a new WD 320G HD. I went to format it and it took ~10 tries before the XP SP1a CD was recognized then it seemed to take. After a 100% install I got an errror message stating the HD was not formatted. I have been trying to redo it but now the machine tells me the "error loading". I have tried both the CD and DVD drives and even attached another ACER CDROM but the machine will not pick up on the XP CD. I have checked the connections re: power and cable and all seem fine.

I appreciate any help i can get.Thanks.

Your CD is probably scratched. You could try polishing it...

keep getting:

"Diskette Drive 0 seek failure "

I have reviewed Dell's website for this message and since I hooked up an independent CDROM that worked once i am lost.
