Yeah fans are good, can get a bit loud though. Could get watercooling and overclock the core2quad a lot, but that might be a bit tough if you dont know how to do it.
I learned how to build mine from magazines and on this forum.
Everyone here will help you along every step.

about fans if you are not planning on overclocking then cpu stock fan should be fine , gpu stock cooling should be good enough and about 2-4 case fans positioned for both exhaust and intake should do ya fine
