Default Decent company for prebuilt desktop computers

Whats a decent company that prebuilts computers. (e.i. HP, Dell, Compaq, Acer, etc.) The reason I ask this, is that my dad wants to buy a new computer, and doesnt trust me in me building it (hell even I dont trust myself) So whats a decent company for desktop computers?

And, and a side question. What does it mean when a BIOS is locked? Does it mean that you cant upgrade your system? Cause i heard that big companies lock the bios.

BIOS lock prevents people from overclocking their cpus, it doesn't prevent people from upgrading, the type of motherboard that comes with the computer is the main factor for that. Dell is a good reputable company for desktops, but some of them do hinder future upgrades, so you might want to spend more time looking, making sure that they have up to date parts that will last. If you want custom computers where you select every part from case to cpu you can try out www.ibuypower.com and www.cyberpowerpc.com.

Due to bad experiences with Dell, go with HP, Compaq, or IBM.

Lol, even though Emachines kind of screwed me over with this comp, I still think they're a great company. All you need to do is research well before you buy a prebuilt computer. Figure out what software comes with it, cpu, mobo, all that good stuff. Make sure it has expansions slots like a pci express slot so you can upgrade your graphics. I didn't know that my computer didn't have a 16x pci express slot, and kind of got screwed over since I was planning to play a few games on it. However there are some great emachines pcs out right now, with pci-e expansions slots, and room for upgrades down the road.

Gateway and HP are other great choices as well.

I don't knopw what to go for, but building a PC yourself isn't that hard you know

Once you get into it, you'll never buy one again. Its the experience that counts.
