Default Debating on two different laptops - help much appreciated

Okay, well im looking to buy a new laptop. My HP fell and the LCD screen cracked, and I'm about to move because of schooling and i cant be draggin around the laptop and a monitor for it all over the place, so I need to buy a new one. My price range was around 1k. I have already picked out 2 laptops that i Like from my local best buy. So im going to list the specs and if you could so kindly help me out in my decision, that would be terrific.

As far as what im looking to do with it, for one im a data network specialist in my job and what I go to school for. So i will be multi-tasking quite a bit, running different programs at once. I will be doing quite a bit of programing. I need a laptop with a good amount of ram and a good size hard drive, which both of these seem to have. I also play PC games, mainly WoW, but couple others too. Now both of these laptops seem to be pretty close but i do notice some differences. One has the Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor, and the other AMD Turion™ 64 X2 mobile technology TL-60. Now some people have told me that the intel is better, but the processor speed on the intel is 1.67, but the AMD is 2.0. Between the 2 there are some differences between the system bus, the cache memory, the video card memory and the ram. The laptop with the Intel processor has more ram (3gb, compared to 2gb in the other) but has less of a lot of other specs. And of course one has a HD dvd drive and the other does not.

That is generally what I see. Now I ask you to help me make the decision of which is better, for general day-to-day computing, multitasking, gaming, and so on.

From what I've heard, I've wondered between AMD and Intel too, was that Intel is great for multitasking and AMD was better for gaming. Not sure why but thats what I've come across. I've always had Intel and have had no complaints. The Core 2 Duo is great because there are 2 processors in 1 which allows the work to be distributed between the 2 allowing the programs to run more fluently and you'll be able to run more programs at once. I think the AMD X2 is the equivalent to the Intel but Intel seems to be ahead of the game when it comes to processors.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of those laptops, they have great parts in them and both have great processors. You'll want the more ram if you are programming and running a lot of programs because its going to cause a lot of load on the system.

Hope this helps

The Intel one is going to run circles around the AMD. The Core 2 is a newer technology and can do a lot more per one cycle (thus the lower clock speed).

Both video cards are the same. However, both do leech off of system memory. That extra gig in the intel will give you more play room there.

While I'm not sure if you'll utilize it or not, the Intel one does have wireless N capabilities which the AMD does not have.

So the 1.67 GHz in the intel will be better than the 2.0 with the AMD? I have been told that the intel will perform a little better, but what gets me in not knowing what to choose is that even though that has the Intel Core 2 technology the laptop with the AMD processor seems to beet it on System Bus although the intel system has more ram. I guess then what im really asking is the 1.67 GHz is still good even tho the AMD is 2.0 GHz?

Yes, it is still very good compared between the two. All of the AMD's "performance" is simply cosmetic. While it looks fast, it will be a turtle when compared to the Core 2.

HP laptops suck. Everyone I know who has them (about 8 people) have problems with them. Mostly their hard drive fries. Don't get either...

I've seen less failurs with their hard drives compared to other companies. Usually when I see them in for service where I work, it's all viral.
