Default Dead Computer ?

right,

i started a post a while ago coz i thought my hardrive was dead here was the symptoms

computer loaded up to diff places sometimes xp flash screen sometime log on sometimes 10 mins after i logged on.

n e way what it did was turn itself off except the num lock light was still on my keyboard ??

dead hardrive right ??

so i get my bro to get a hardrive from work he brings it home i turn on the computer / without makin n e changes just to double check. and it doesnt turn on.

i unpplug powersupply plug it back in i turn it on and it goes crazy and turns itself on and off like 2 times a second u cant tell the fans have stopped all i can tell is the power led light flicks on and off really fast and fans sound like there revving up like and engine up .. down .... up ... down .

so i unplug the the hardrive and retry turning it on same thing happens.

so i think right what next i unplug all the jumpers for the front panel stuff unplug cd drive unplug floppy drive and remove the RAM thinkin it shouldnt turn on but give me a really annoying beep lettin me know its got no RAM but no it just turns it self off and on constantly.

whats wrong wiv it ?? im thinkin mobo or PSU

i mean its an old celeron 478 with 512MB RAM is it really worth buying a new mobo or PSU or shall i just get a new pc.

its my family computer so im guessing a new build wouldnt need to cost more than 130 ish and new mobo will be like 30 ?? so im not sure weather to buy new or repair ??

what u think it is ? PSU or Mobo ? or something diff

well if you have about 220 you could new build a dual core with a sata hd etc , for about 150 you could build a sempy new
i would get an amd athlon x2 3600+ which would be
43 here http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=27106
then a cheap socket AM2 Mobo around 30 here http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=25649 a gig of ddr2 800 about 24 here get two of theese great value http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=25385
thats 97 ish for dual core cpu mobo and a gig o ram
then test the hd , if the hd dont work get one depending upon size requirements obviously
also use your current psu and case

oh and if you need a case ,, get this , i have one and she keeps my system in sig cool as hell also has a 450w psu although ad only says 400w http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=21963

hmmm now thats tempting for 100 got all the basics then say 25 ish for hardrive then id get a new case with PSU coz i dont wonna risk n e thing

i got this 1 for my G/F's bro computer http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/105235

which is absolutely brilliant keeps his C2D at bout 28'C with stock HS&F

so thats bout 150 ish for a new dual core system not bad at all ill def have to give that a think over
BTW the processor link is wrong

but what u think the problem with the pc is ?

also i c a post about testing possibly faulty components in a new machine and asking if its possible to damage the new build ? like if i got the new pc above id want to salvage what i can from the old pc.

like obviously hardrive, cd drive, floppy drive wouldnt damage the mobo but if the PSU is puttin too much power through that could be dangerous to new parts and if the RAM is faulty could it damage the Mobo ?

but again id still like to know wots wrong wiv the old 1

tbh that is the cheapest dual core around ever and at less than 45 you cant complain , i mean you can get a sempy for 25 but hell add the extra 20 and go dual

also that processor will do for home parent type tasks i call them
