Data Execution Prevention Window Appears

I am running XP on my laptop. Whenever I try and open some programs or folders (including My Documents) the following error window appears:

Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows

"To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.

Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation"


I then close this window and another appears:

Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this incovenience.

Can anyone help please?
