.dat files are usually a text file, such as Microsoft Word, or Wordpad.

Do you have any of these installed?

Right click on the file, and open it with Notepad, you will proberly be able to see it then.

What is the file you downloaded?

It may need a special program you can only get to the solicitor, if you can i'd ask him what program he made it in.

It may open in Wordperfect if you have it.

Ahhh, ask him which program he used to write the letter.

Have you got Microsoft Word?

If not, find the file extension for the program you use, then google something like

.fju to .dat
.fju to .dat file conversion
