Hello everyone. Recently I've been considering making myself a computer. My main concerns are gaming and soundsystem. This is what I've come up with (from newegg.com) and I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. I.E. a better deal, a better part, etc. Thanks in advance!

Well this is definitely going to be a high end computer so I'd go with the core 2 duo cpus. But it really doesn't matter that much since the amd x2 4600+ will last u a very long time too. I'm still using a 3.0Ghz single core pentium 4 and I don't think that there is any game out that my cpu couldn't handle. But a core 2 duo would give u better performance. (the E6600 has about the same performance as the amd fx-62)

And I'd get just one 7900GT. It's capable of running all the new games fine. U are just paying $300 to get better frame rates. (which really doesn't matter as long as the frame rate is 60+) And if u are thinking that if u get two now u don't have to upgrade for years, well dx10 is coming out probably Q1 of 2007, and then games are going to start using dx10. If u want to play these games with the highest settings u will have to get a dx10 card. But u will still be able to play then well with a dx9 card, u just can't enable all of the settings.

DO NOT buy a dual-core processor, the performance hit is only slightly different in comparison to a single-core but it will give you no end of troubles with regards to gaming, if you have to get one, make it the AMD FX-60 otherwise steer clear, past and even future games simply lack the support for the dual core and so crashes are a frequent thing, talking from experience. Stick to basics with the case, it will save you a few bob and will impress people more to see lots of power coming from a standard-looking computer. Put the money you save from the case on some quality fans, overheating is a commonly overlooked issue and the cause of many crashes. With regard to audio, that card is suitable, audio is another cause of game crashing when two or more peices of hardware try to process information through the same channel. You won't need 2 Gb RAM, 1Gb will be sufficent, hope that helped. Jon

The Intel C2D processors out perform all of the AMD chips. The big issue with them is finding a MoBo with SLI that is suitable for the user.

I think you should get the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 because the timing is better (5-5-5-12 vs. 4-4-4-12)

The sound card is very good for play... not so for recording.

And the speakers are good enough, not so incredibly loud, but I dont think you need it to be. :p

trashedteen, the Core Duo 2 chips, as aecliptic said, pwn all amds, and are relatively cheap too, and stay really cool, you have to TRY to make a conroe overheat. there won't be any issues with the sound card as you can disbale the onboard sound. and if he wants top of the line, and doesn't have any problems spending the jack, 2 gigs is worth it. and the case, get one you like a lot, because you will see it all the time.

Terriable advice. Dual core CPUs are fun, and wicked and at the prices they are costing now its not expensive to get one. And 1 GIG ram heh forget that get 2.

BTW, for the price you would be paying for the BEST AMD chip... youre better off adding an extra 200 bucks and getting the X6800, and if you say this chip is just slightly better - than you must be smoking.

Guys, he does have 2 gigs of RAM listed.
