Default Custom Build "First Draft" Review Please

This is my first build, and I'm going from scratch. This is what I have picked out so far

CPU:

OR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115132

Mobo:

OR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128347
OR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131288

As you can see, not really sure about these two...any suggestions appreciated

PSU:

CD/DVD Drive:

RAM:

I think I might hold off on this for a bit, until I can understand exactly how frequency works >.<

Video Card:
sticking with my old 8600 GT for now

Case:
Undecided

HDD:

OR

As you can probably tell, I am very new to this. If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than open. Or if someone notices that these parts may not work well together or something, please tell me. I don't know about anything else such as cooling, etc. This is all I have so far.. Thanks

Going with an Intel setup would be your best bet performance wise. Neither of those motherboards are compatible with the CPU you selected as they don't have the proper FSB.

This one will work: ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS

The OCZ StealthXStream is an excellent choice. Great quality PSU, But you really don't need that much power. For a bit less, you can get the OCZ StealthXStream 500W.

DDR2 800 will be what you need for memory. G.Skill makes a great set: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800

You can't go wrong with either hard drive. I prefer Seagate drives.

Oh yea, you'll need a CPU HSF. This would be a good choice: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro

Okay thanks, that fixes some things. My next question is, how do ram frequencies (1066/800 etc.) effect performance, or what is the main difference? And what about cas latency and timings and such?

800mhz is the standard ram speed and on that G.Skill ram you can easily set the timings to 4-4-4-12

heres a good article on RAM speeds and timings

Okay, I've tweaked my original build a bit. Basically all I need to know now is if these parts will work together.

CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115132
PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010
RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122
Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138123

They seem to fit well together, but I'm just a newbie :P
Assuming those parts all work with my GeForce 8600 GT, my only problem is choosing between these two cases:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811208020
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146035

Again, if anyone has any more tips, I'm listening

That will work. The case is really up to your personal tastes. I prefer the NZXT.
