Ok, top of the line games. That says AMD.

Dual core too.

Check this..

Ok.. Just looked. No AMD dual core for you.

This is the best AMD CPU for your needs, that you can afford

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539

And.. For Dual core, you would need to go Intel... And Actually the Pent D's are nice.. Check this..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116213

Thats a nice processor. Great multi tasker. Although you would be much happier with the AMD. Because its gaming biased. And the Intel is multi-tasking biased.

OK, I'm going to explain this as best as I can, and why you should take one over the other.

Single Core processors are no longer the standard in CPUs. Dual Cores are. Dual Cores are becoming utilized in more and more games, and in the future, bearly every game will take advantage of a Dual Core processor. Yes, some Single Core processors can out perform some Dual Cores in some games, however, this is not because of the Dual Core processor, it is because of the way the game was designed. Games that were designed last year were not being made to run with a Dual Core system. However, this year games are goign to be made to take advantage of the Dual Core processors.

Single Core processors are dying, and rather fast I might add. With the launch of AMD's Socket AM2, they will with it launch 6 new Athlon X2 Dual Core processors. Not to mention, Intel is also launching a new product line duped 'Conroe', all of which are goign to be Dual Core. Then to top that off, at the end of this year we expect to see Quad-Core processors. So, with the way technology is going, Single Core processors are dying at a very high rate.

The time to purcahse a Dual Core processor is coming. By the end of this year, we expect Dual Cores to be extremly affordable and very much worth the purcahse.

well that is speaking for the end of the year. i am going with AMD. is there any reason why i shouldn't build my rig with a single core now that i can afford and then upgrade to dual core later when socket 939 dual cores come down to my price range?

Nah.. Thats a good idea. Build now, and upgrade later. That single core 3700+ plus I showed you should do fine. There are also some awesome 3500+ for like 10 dollars less.

I wouldn't go AMD actually. Intel has a new processor coming out that is better then the FX-60, and is about $800 less. Why waste money now when you can wait, save up even more money, and have an ever better PC? Save your cash, buy the new Conroe. Just check out the Processors section and read the reviews I posted on the Conroe and FX-60. Here, I'll infact link you to them to save you time...

Yeah, but he wants something now!!!

Although because the Conroe wont change CPU sockets.. He could get that PENT D, and upgrade to a conroe from that. Or get a Pent 4, 6xx series.. And upgrade from that. I personally love my processor. Id reccomend it to him.

main problem with that is i'm stuck with the integrated graphics on my laptop that couldn't even run WOW without lag, even on the lowest settings. not only that there are quite a few games coming out soon that i would like to play online with my friends. AND i'm a bussboy!!! i don't expect to have a really good computer for a very long time. thanks for the input but i'll just upgrade later. still always open for suggestions though. also my updated rig is in my signature now. tell me what you think. though it seems i have to design a new one every month and prices drop and i learn more.

edit: also thinking about doubling that video card when i have the money. just idle musing....

edit x2: that pent d sounds nice but i don't think i could ever upgrade to a conroe. WAY to expensive. i'll make a list of parts for the pent d and post it. then you experts can compare it to my signature and tell me the best option.

I built a decent rig for under $500 for a friend. It was Dual Core, had PCI Express, and a gigabyte of RAM and a 120GB SATA Hard Drive.

Yeah, but.. He plays top of the line games. We could do that for him.. but they wouldnt look too good. Because the system would cost like 500. And the remaineder would be the graphics card.
