Default CPU Upgrade

I have a compaq pc with a single core, AM2, proccesor, was wondering if I could upgrade to a dual core.thanks.

some 3-year old motherboard that came with my comp, I dont really want to get a new mb, as I have my compaq case and all, and prolly nothing would fit, but If I have to get a new mb, it cant be a ton of money.

If you can tell us what motherboard you have we can help better. You can get a motherboard that supports dual core for around $45-$50.
