CPU Thermal paste

Ok. I have 1 more week before I start getting my computer parts

I was doing research on the thermal paste that comes with the heat sink BUT I decided not to use the factory heatsink and fan I get with my AMD Processor. I am going to be useing a aftermarket heatsink and fan.

Here is my question.

What is the best way to apply the thermal paste? Applying too little can be bad and applying too much can also be bad.

1. How much thermal paste is just enough?

2. How do I let the thermal paste set in? Do I turn on the computer to heat it up or what?
