Default CPU question

I'm building a new gaming rig and am wondering on which cpu to go with. I'm stuck between the Q6600, or the e8400. I'm wondering which would give better performance in games and video encoding. I like the quad core because of the 4 cores, but i also like the e8400 becuase of the 1333mhz fsb and higher clock speeds. If i do go with the e8400, will i have to flash the bios on my asus maximus formula special edition? Thanks.

You'll get better service from the Q6600 for video encoding, it will also run at 1333MHz with a little overclock (FSB 333MHz quad pumped), the Asus site is lagging to hell so I am still waiting to see if your board will need a bios flash, it may not but probably will, no big deal.

Don't forget the Q9xxx series is out shortly

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...uad-q9300.html - Read this article. It shows benchmarks of the E8500, the Q6600, the Q9300 and various other CPUs and then of them all overclocked. As you can see, dual core is still best for the majority of apps.

No it won't, the E8400 can OC as high as the E8500 anyway.
