Default CPU and mother board for gaming PC?

I am looking into some CPU's for my new up and coming intense gaming PC. I know there are are the 2 brands, AMD and Intel, I have been told that AMD 64bit i better and then I have been told Intel pentium 4 is better so I am confused at this point so would like some of your input on this. I know that the CPU and the mother board go hand in hand so what mother board would you suggest? Looking for something around $300.

an amd 64 3200 and a k8v premium motherboard should be all you need

and the processor

that should do just fine for a gaming pc

Go AMD. If you have barely any money go with the Athlon Xp or Sempron series. If you got moolah to blow, then get the 64 or FX series. Remember, be careful not to step into the bullshit. Whoever tells you the P4 is better is an idiot who has never had any experience with computers.

This is hard for me becuase the person who is building this for me is partial to intel and dosnt really like the AMD stuff. Although I have heard good from both sides, I hear that AMD is a better gaming PC processor. My friend also seems very concernd with heat for me do you think that would be any problem with this case?
