Default CPU fan spins then stops

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100-PP07L. CPU fan spins for about 2 seconds when it is turned on then stops. Sometimes it comes back on for a short time. The laptop will overheat in about 5 minutes of use. I put it in front of an air conditioner and it did not overheat.

Should I buy a new fan for the CPU? Since the fan does spin sometimes, and I have cleaned every spec of dust out of it, maybe the problem lies with the controller on the mobo. Fan is $12, worth a try or not?

I doubt it is a fan problem, looks like its a problem on the computers software. Browse around your bios settings and see if there is something wrong there, if not then you might have to contact Dell's support if it is still in warranty
