cpu advice?

I want to upgrade my dv6-1130tx cpu but i don't know if it's compatible.

currently has a intel core 2 duo P7450 @2.13Ghz socket PGA478.

New cpu is an intel core 2 duo P8700 @ 2.53Ghz.

Is this even possible, because aren't some laptop cpu's soldered in?

Do other types of cpu's also work? Not really sure on any of this, any advice would be appreciated, thanks

I've never seen a laptop CPU soldered in.

On paper, if the CPUs are the same socket, it will just drop right in.

You have to be sure that the motherboard and cooling can support the CPU. Usually a BIOS flash can answer the motherboard support question.

As for the cooling, if the CPUs have the same TDP, then you shouldn't have a problem.

I would check with HP support, see if you can dig up some documentation to better answer your question. For what it's worth, you might not see much of a performance difference between the two chips.
