Default Core Computer Knowledge

Hey all. Another post with some questions to help guide me on to a career in computers. This may sound like I'm asking for some very basic level knowledge, and if it does, thats good. Thats pretty much what I'm going for here. I am not a complete newbie to computers. However, I would like to fully and completely understand the basic workings and operations of a typical PC. I think this would be required knowledge before moving up to more advanced topics. Anyone recommend and good websites or books for this?

There has got to be a "book for dummies" on how computers work. I've learned a lot from that series when it comes to computers.
