Last week I picked up at auction a Gateway M-685E laptop with no hard drive. I added a Seagate 7200RPM 320Gig and installed Linux. Before the install finished the unit shut down and the cover over the CPU was too hot to touch.
So, my 1st instance of thermal overload.
All I can find is the cooling fan starts on startup but stops when system begins to POST. (Now I know why it was at auction too).
Is there some way to remedy this? I've never done a BIOS update or anything concerning the POST. I've found the GatewaY pages for updates but am unsure how to proceed.
