Default Converting .avi and .mswmm files to play on Domestic DVD Players

I have several .avi files from email videos that have been sent to me from digital cameras. Also, with Windows Movie maker, I have assembled and grouped several of these .avi files, with the end result being a .mswmm file.

I would like to transfer them to DVD, to play in a domestic player to my telly. Unfortunately, having tried this with the .mswmm file via Nero 7, it will still only play back on my computer, not via my DVD player. I notice that fiels capable of being transfered successfully previously, have _ts extensions.

Is there software which will convert the .avi and .mswmm files? I've been informed that this can be accomplished via Nero, Pnnacle Studio, and even MS Movie Maker, but I don't see where! I've heard that something like .mpg is the file extension that is required.

Has anyone any advice and suggestions what you have to do this?
